How to Save Money on Gas
Buying gasoline for your vehicle is something everyone does. ?Not because we want to but because we have to in order to go to our jobs, take our kids to school, and go to the store. ?No matter what we do are lives are dependent on this natural resource. ?As a result we all want to pay less for gas but in this article I’m going to show why most people are paying more because of one very big reason, fear.
The Fear Factor
When it comes down to it fear causes us to do a lot things that may or may not be good for us. ?It also causes us to react in different ways as well. ?For example, if you hear several news reports?throughout?the day, on the radio, and TV, proclaiming gloom and doom and that gas prices are going to go up to $10 a gallon the typically reaction for most people is to buy gas.
The reason most people react to this is because the fear is causing a pain, and that pain is paying more for your gas. ?Now if the opposite were to happen and gas prices went down what would be your reaction then? ?In most cases nothing, since their is no potential threat or fear.
The Problem
The problem with this mentality is that because of this fear we tend to act?ill-rationally?and buy gas at an already high price. ?In fact, I’ve noticed at my own local gas station when the media is proclaiming doom and gloom it’s only after the price has gone way up and as a result we end up paying a lot more for gas than we really intended.
The Solution
So how do we solve this problem? ?The answer is simple, don’t base your?emphasis?on buying ?gas based on what you can’t control but rather what you can control.
For example, you can’t control what the gas prices will do, but you can control where you buy gas from and when you will fill up. ?In fact one thing I will do is play a simple game were I will see how long I can make a tank of gas last. ?In fact my vehicle can last anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks on a single tank by just keeping tabs on it.
Another thing I do is use ?a gas card which give me a special benefit. ?For example, I use the Marathon Gas Card which saves me up to 25 cents a gallon.
Final Thoughts…
As a final thought on how to save money on gas consider your habits when you buy gas. ?Do you react when the media is proclaiming doom and gloom or do you buy gas on things you can control?
